For the 1987 Ford Mustang 5.0L Fox Body, the front left suspension knuckle (Ford OEM E7ZZ-3K185-A) serves as the critical hardpoint connecting the MacPherson strut, control arm, and wheel hub. Junkyard interchange spans 1982-1993 Mustang and 1979-1986 Capri Fox platforms, but strictly avoid 1979-1981 donor cars which utilized smaller 48mm bearing spindles incompatible with 1987 brake hardware. When inspecting a candidate casting marked E7SC-AA, check the spindle pin for seal scarring and the ball joint taper for egg-shaped wallowing—common failures include hairline cracks around the caliper bracket mounting ears from curb impacts. Installation requires a pickle fork separator (never hammer the casting directly) and torqueing the strut-to-knuckle bolts to 85-105 ft-lbs with the suspension loaded. Note that while the F2ZZ-3K185-A supercession fits perfectly, early ABS provision machining on 1990+ units may require plugging unused sensor holes on your 1987 application.
