3L I6 Naturally Aspirated N52B30 (240hp).
Quick reference
Air suspension was optional on 528i; verify vehicle has option code 2VA or 2VB (Adaptive Drive) and not standard steel springs
2010-2011 early production may use different damper solenoid connectors (2-pin) compared to 2012+ (4-pin) when equipped with EDC; verify plug compatibility
F07 5-Series Gran Turismo uses distinct front suspension geometry and different air strut part numbers despite similar appearance
Context
When sourcing BMW F10 5-Series front air struts from salvage, target 2010-2016 sedans and 2010-2017 Touring wagons explicitly equipped with the optional self-leveling air suspension—verify by spotting air lines entering the strut tower rather than coil springs. The front right assembly carries BMW part number 37126791676, superseding earlier 37106781830 production; left side is 37126791675. These units interchange across all engine variants including the N52B30, N55, and diesel options regardless of horsepower rating. Inspection is critical: examine the upper plastic mount for stress cracks common after 80k miles, and check the air line quick-connect fitting for white residue indicating leaks. Test the shock body by pressing the valve—if it hisses continuously, the internal bladder has failed. Installation requires disconnecting the 12V battery before unplugging air lines to prevent ZBE module faults, and you must perform ride height calibration via BMW ISTA software post-installation. Avoid any unit with moisture in the air line, as this signals a desiccant-failed compressor that will quickly ruin the replacement strut.
