Left HID / Xenon Ballast - 2011 528i

For the 2011 BMW F10 528i equipped with the N52B30 engine, the left HID ballast (headlight control unit) is identified by BMW part number 63117248050 or the Hella supplier casting 5DV 009 610-001 etched on the metal casing. This unit controls the xenon bulb ignition and steady-state operation for the left headlight assembly. Interchange spans 2011-2013 F10 5-Series sedans and F11 wagons across 528i, 535i, and 550i models, though 2014+ LCI vehicles require verification as BMW transitioned to modified connectors. When pulling from salvage yards, prioritize units with the Hella casting number over faded BMW stickers, as supplier codes remain consistent through supersessions. Inspect the multi-pin connector for green corrosion or melted plastic—water infiltration through headlight seals is the primary failure mode. Installation requires removing the front bumper to access the headlight mounting bolts; the ballast attaches to the bottom of the headlight housing via three T25 Torx screws.
