Quick reference
Verify vehicle is equipped with xenon headlights (option S522A/S524A); halogen models lack this sensor or use different mounting
F10 LCI (2014+) retains same sensor part numbers but verify connector housing color (black vs blue) for wiring harness compatibility
F12/F13 6-Series interchange is platform-based but verify mounting bracket part numbers differ slightly from F10
Context
The headlight level sensor on the F10 BMW 5-Series ensures proper xenon headlight aim by monitoring rear suspension height, transmitting data to the LCM (Light Control Module). Common failures include water intrusion in the three-pin connector pins, cracked housings from stone impacts, and snapped mounting brackets from suspension trauma. When junkyard hunting, target 2010-2016 F10 sedans, F11 Touring wagons, or F07 GT models—all interchange BMW part numbers 37146784697 (rear left) and 37146784698 (rear right). Earlier production used 37146763735/37146763736, superseded by the 84697-series. Inspect the pivot arm for binding and verify the connector lacks green corrosion. Installation requires Torx T25 bits; torque the M6 bolt to 10 Nm with the suspension at ride height. Critical: Post-installation calibration is mandatory using BMW ISTA/D to clear fault codes 507C/507D and prevent headlight misalignment that dazzles oncoming traffic. Always transfer alignment marks from donor to recipient.
