When sourcing BMW F10 5-Series driver seat tracks in the junkyard, target 2010-2016 sedans or 2010-2017 Touring wagons. The critical OEM numbers are 52-10-7-222-439 for the left/driver side and 52-10-7-222-440 for the passenger side—these are mirror images and not interchangeable side-to-side. Always verify the donor vehicle has standard seats rather than Sport or M Sport packages, as the latter use different rail geometry with integrated thigh support mounting points. Before removal, cycle the seat fully forward and back to check for clicking or grinding in the gear mechanism; the plastic slider blocks inside the rail commonly crack after 100k miles. Inspect the metal rail for collision damage or severe corrosion, particularly at the floor mounting tabs. During installation on your 2011 528i, disconnect the battery and wait 15 minutes before unplugging the seat connector to avoid airbag faults. Torque the four 16mm floor bolts to 40 Nm in a diagonal pattern to prevent binding. If swapping tracks between model years, confirm the electric motor connector has the same 4-pin configuration—early 2010 production used a different plug housing than 2012+ examples.
