The critical OEM number 52 10 7 268 429 fits standard comfort seats, while earlier cars may carry 52 10 7 227 287—both interchange mechanically but verify the seat option code stamped on your seat frame (459 standard vs 481 Sport). Inspection is vital: deployed active headrests (anti-whiplash) lock solid and cannot be reset without special tools; check the leather bolster for dye wear common on black Dakota leather, and ensure the 9mm mounting posts aren’t bent from improper removal. Installation requires carefully threading the NEK cable through the seatback guide sleeve (52 10 0 429 155) before pressing the posts home—forcing it destroys the plastic retainers. Common failures include separated upper stitching and sticky height adjustment caused by debris in the guide tracks.
