3L I6 Naturally Aspirated N52B30 (240hp).
Quick reference
Component only present in vehicles with 4-zone climate control (option 4NB); verify donor car has rear center console vents
Pre-2011 production may use different refrigerant line quick-connect fittings
F07 5-Series Gran Turismo uses similar core but different mounting orientation
Context
The rear evaporator core in the 2011 BMW 528i serves the optional 4-zone automatic climate control system, mounted behind the rear center console beneath the air distribution ducting. When sourcing from salvage, target part numbers 64 12 9 219 305 or 64 12 9 269 387 stamped on the aluminum fins or plastic end tanks. This component appears exclusively in F10/F11 chassis with the S4NBA option code; standard 2-zone cars lack the rear HVAC unit entirely. Inspect for PAG oil residue on fins indicating refrigerant leaks, and verify the temperature sensor pigtail remains intact. Installation demands removal of the rear center console, front seat rails, and carpet padding for access. Common failures include pinhole leaks from corrosion due to poor drainage, or clogged evaporator drains causing condensation overflow onto the transmission tunnel. When pulling from 2010-2016 F10 sedans or 2010-2017 F11 wagons, recover the entire rear HVAC housing if possible, as the foam seals and mounting feet are easily damaged during extraction.
