Quick reference
Verify connector pin count (2-wire vs 3-wire) when using pre-1987 donors; early models lack the chassis ground pin
Supplier casting numbers (Delco, Denso, Bosch) vary and are not standardized across production years
SN95 platform (1994-1998) uses incompatible mounting flange and motor design despite similar appearance
Context
The Ford Fox platform utilized a robust blower motor design spanning the entire 1979-1993 production run, making junkyard sourcing straightforward for 1987 Mustang GT and LX owners. The OEM service number E7ZZ-19805-A supersedes earlier D9ZZ-19805-A applications and remains functionally identical across all engine variants from the 2.3L four-cylinder to the 5.0L V8. When inspecting donor vehicles, rotate the squirrel cage by hand to check for bearing seizure or excessive play, common failure points after decades of service. Installation requires removing the passenger-side glove box liner and disconnecting the three-wire harness; early 1979-1986 models used a two-wire configuration requiring an adapter or harness modification for proper compatibility. The Motorcraft YH-515 serves as the direct aftermarket equivalent. Always verify the three-bolt mounting flange is intact and the intake gasket seal remains pliable to prevent water intrusion into the cabin. Resistor packs should be replaced simultaneously if the motor shows high-current draw symptoms. Compatible donors include Mercury Capri models through 1986 and all Fox-body Mustangs regardless of engine displacement.
