Quick reference
Verify connector pin count (2-pin vs 4-pin) for 4-zone climate control variants before installation
LHD and RHD vehicles may have different mounting bracket orientations; verify cowl drain alignment
2013 LCI facelift did not change blower design, but integrated final stage resistor variations exist
Context
The HVAC blower motor in your 2011 BMW 528i (F10 chassis) is a common failure point as these units age, typically manifesting as squealing bearings or intermittent operation. Located behind the glove box, the OEM unit BMW 64 11 9 278 467 (superseding earlier variants) fits all 2010-2016 F10/F11 5 Series models regardless of engine variant. Junkyard hunters should also target 2010-2017 F07 5 Series GT and 2011-2017 F12/F13 6 Series for compatible donors, though verify the electrical connector matches your climate control type—standard IHKA uses a 2-pin connector while 4-zone systems require different wiring. Remove the glove box assembly (T20 Torx) and detach the three mounting screws. Inspect the intake filter housing for debris; clogged cowl drains cause water damage to the motor windings. If the blower works only on high speed, the integrated regulator has failed.
