3L I6 Naturally Aspirated N52B30 (240hp).
Quick reference
Intake vs. Exhaust: While often the same part number, some N52 variants use color-coded connectors (black for intake, blue for exhaust); verify before installation
Supersession chain: 13627525014 has been superseded by 13627558518; verify latest number at dealer for active models
Early N52 (2004-2005 pre-LCI E60) may have different sensor mounting hardware despite same electrical connector
Context
The BMW F10 528i (2011-2016) with the N52B30 inline-six utilizes two camshaft position sensors—one for the intake and one for the exhaust camshaft—typically bearing BMW part number 13627525014 or the updated 13627558518. These hall-effect sensors mount to the cylinder head beneath the valve cover edges and are critical for VANOS timing adjustment. When failing, they trigger codes 2A82 or 2A87 and cause rough cold starts or stalling. Interchange spans the entire N52 engine family: E90/E92 328i (2007-2013), E60 528i/530i (2004-2010), E82 128i (2008-2013), E89 Z4 sDrive30i, and E70 X5 3.0si. In the junkyard, prioritize pulling from 2007-2013 E90 3-Series or E60 5-Series donors, as the sensors are identical though connector housing colors may vary (black vs. blue denote intake vs. exhaust sides). Installation requires a 10mm socket and careful O-ring inspection—oil saturation indicates seal failure requiring replacement. Always apply dielectric grease to the 3-pin connector to prevent moisture ingress. Verify the sensor triggers at the correct voltage before condemning VANOS mechanical components.
