Located behind the dashboard key slot (or start button on Comfort Access cars), this electronic module reads the key fob transponder and interfaces with the CAS4 immobilizer system. When pulling from junkyards, target 2010-2016 F10 sedans, F11 wagons, or F07 GT models - all share this component regardless of engine variant. Inspect the wiring harness connector for green corrosion and check that the mechanical emergency release operates smoothly. Critical installation note: BMW requires coding/programming for the replacement switch to marry with the vehicle's CAS module; used units typically require dealer initialization or advanced scan tools like Autel or ISTA.
