5L V8 Naturally Aspirated Coyote V8 (435hp).
Quick reference
User specified 435hp for 2018 model, but Ford rated 2018 GT at 460hp; 435hp corresponds to 2015-2017 Gen 2 Coyote. Verify model year to ensure correct part selection.
Performance Pack (PP1/PP2) master cylinders are visually identical to base units but hydraulically distinct; mismatch causes brake failure.
2015 early production (before 11/2014) may have different fluid level sensor connector requiring pigtail adapter.
Context
When scavenging Ford S550 Mustang parts, the brake master cylinder presents a common junkyard upgrade pitfall due to bore diameter variations. While the FR3Z-2140-A from 2015-2017 GTs and the JR3Z-2140-A from 2018-2023 models share identical firewall mounting patterns and pushrod geometry, they are not universally interchangeable with Performance Pack variants. Always inspect the casting marks: base brakes use a 15/16-inch bore (marked '15/16' on the casting), while PP cars use a 1-inch bore. Remove the reservoir cap and check for crystallization or rust—common failures in humid climates that destroy the bore surface. During extraction, preserve the rubber isolator grommets between the master cylinder and booster; these are unique to the S550 chassis. Installation requires precise pushrod adjustment; too long causes drag and ABS pump damage, too short creates excessive pedal travel. Bench bleed the unit before bolting to the JR3Z-2005-A brake booster to prevent airlock in the integrated ABS module.

Casting numbers from suppliers (TRW, Bosch, Continental) are more reliable than service part numbers for interchange verification due to Ford supersession chains.
