When scavenging F10-generation BMW 5-Series at the junkyard, the rear brake backing plates interchange across 2010-2016 sedans, wagons (F11), and Gran Turismo (F07) models regardless of engine variant. Look for part number 34 21 6 762 378 stamped on the right-side shield or 34 21 6 850 292 on later supersessions. These thin steel plates protect the parking brake mechanism from debris but notoriously rust at the mounting tabs, especially in salt-belt states. Inspection tip: Check for cracks around the three mounting bolt holes—these stress fracture from heat cycling and road vibration. Installation requires removing the rear caliper and rotor; clean the hub flange thoroughly before bolting the new shield with 10Nm torque to prevent warping that causes rotor contact. Note that left and right are not interchangeable due to asymmetric parking brake cable routing cutouts.
