Quick reference
Comfort Access (SA 322) vs standard locking variants may have different wiring harness connectors despite similar mechanical mounting
LCI (2014-2016) facelift models introduced revised part numbers that may require software coding when installed on pre-LCI chassis
E60 5-Series (2004-2010) latches are mechanically incompatible despite similar appearance
Context
The BMW F10 5-Series trunk latch mechanism (OEM 51247269576 or updated 51247345700) is a common failure point after 80,000-120,000 miles, typically presenting as a clicking actuator that fails to release the striker or intermittent central locking faults. When junkyard hunting, target 2010-2016 F10 sedans specifically; while the N52B30 528i shares this latch with N55 and N63 variants, the F11 Touring and F07 GT use incompatible mounting geometries. Inspection is critical: remove the trunk liner (T20 Torx screws) and check for water intrusion damage—sunroof drain clogs often flood the trunk well, corroding the latch motor. Test by manually cycling the release lever; grinding or free-spinning indicates stripped internal nylon gears. Installation requires battery disconnection due to airbag proximity sensors. Post-installation, BMW ISTAP coding may be required to synchronize the new microswitch signals with the CAS4 module, particularly on Comfort Access-equipped vehicles. Always verify the casting mark (typically Kiekert) matches your donor vehicle's production date to ensure connector compatibility.
